Consisting of letter, 16 May 1885, Barnwell C[ourt] H[ouse], S.C., to Messrs. Brawley & Barnwell, attorney's letter requesting documents pertaining to an accidental railroad death at Graniteville, S.C., "the case of Jennings O'Neil killed while coupling cars ... on 29 Jan. 1884," in which Aldrich recommends that the lawyers plead " ... contributing negligence on part of the deceased." Scrapbook, 28 Sept. 1896 - 28 Jan. 1910 [on microfilm R 107], with clippings re contributions to the Confederate Monument (Columbia, S.C.); letters from colleges requesting that R.A.deliver commencement addresses, including invitations from the Johnston Institute, The Citadel, Davidson College, South Carolina Co-Educational Institute, Newberry College, and Clemson College. Political topics documented in the scrapbook include essays: "An incident in the political life of Judge Samuel W. Melton"; "Primary Election [for S.C. Senator from] Barnwell County, 1900"; and newspaper articles re deaths of Alfred Proctor Aldrich (1814-1897) and Johnson Hagood (1829-1898); speech delivered by R.A. to the Wade Hampton Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy re the "historic vesture" of A.P. Aldrich; and remarks by R.A. upon the occasion of delivering the Star of the West medal to the successful competitors in the individual drill at the annual commencement exercises of the Citadel. Property conveyances and deeds for Polk County, N.C., land owned in and near Saluda, N.C., including letters, 1907, from D.P. Duncan of Columbia, written on stationery printed with letterhead promoting local street-car suburb, "Town of Shandon / Treasurer's Office / Epworth, S.C."; H.W. Kingman identified as treasurer; Aldrich's will, 29 Sept. 1911; receipts, 1913, for books purchased from the estate by Hunter A. Gibbes, Halcott B. Thomas, and others; and undated list of monies presumably paid out by estate of Robert Aldrich as just debts. Posthumous memorials from fraternal orders and Episcopal church of which Aldrich was a member consist of document [ca. Dec. 1911], issued by Barnwell Lodge No. 16, K[nights] of P[ythias], directing that resolutions be sent to "the county [news]papers and to South Carolina Pythian for publication"; resolution [ca. 19 Dec. 1911], of Harmony Lodge No. 17, A[ncient] F[ree] M[asons]; and "Tribute of Respect," 5 Jan. 1912, from Church of the Holy Apostles (Barnwell, S.C.); calligraphy by H. B. Mitchell of Columbia, S.C.
